First Prayer in the Year 初詣

Happy New Year!
A little belatedly, but I would like to say this to you all.

Did you pay the new year's first visit to a nearby shrine?
I did. On the very first day of the new year I went to Tsubaki Shrine (officially called Iyozu-hikome Shrine) to say a prayer. For the good health of my family members.
I found lots of people coming and going, eating, smiling, praying, but not jostling each other, thank God. Some in kimono, others in quite an unthinkable (at least, to me) outfit.
Tens of millions of good people all over Japan do this every year.
I sincerely hope that all of us do our best to get over the very hard time ahead and will be able to welcome a good new year 2010. Let devils be laughing. Cheerio!

明けましておめでとうございます。
ちょっと遅いかも知れませんが、新年のご挨拶を申し上げます。

皆さんは初詣に行かれましたか？
私は行ってきました。元旦に椿神社（正式には、伊豫豆比古命神社と呼ばれます）へ行き、家族の健康をお願いしてきました。
多くの人達が参堂を行き来し、食べ物を食べたり、ニコニコしたり、お願いをしたりしていましたが、幸いなことに押し合いへしあいはありませんでした。
日本中で毎年、何千万人もの善良な人達が初詣をします。
これから先の困難な状況を克服するために、私達が皆全力を尽くし、来る２０１０年を良き年として迎えられることを、本当に願っています。
（来年のことを言って）鬼には笑わせておきましょう。
